You or other family member has gathered the family memories and history and although it is organized in your filing system, it is often stored in boxes and file cabinets in a way to prevent other family members to have easy access to the information that has been accumulated.  Now you are wondering how to best share all this information with the rest of the family in way they will find understandable and interesting.  Or perhaps nobody in the current generation is interested, but you want to ensure this information is available to a future descendant who takes an interest into who their ancestors are and how and where did they live.

Putting and organizing memories and family history into a manuscript on a CD gives a means of merging the essence of family in ethnic, geographical, historical, political, religious, and social context.  It organizes and puts forth information in ways family members not involved in genealogy can easily access and understand.  The on a CD manuscript provides your children and great grandchildren with a sense of their heritage.  Sharing their heritage with children allows them to better understand themselves and their family.  Your family history could be one of the most valuable inheritances you leave your family.

Your ancestors lived in specific time and places and their world differed from yours as your world differs from your children's and your grandchildren's.  Sharing that understanding with your children and their children makes your family history interesting.

A family history manuscript is simply complimenting fact, record, and illustrations with placing people in context with their lives. A family history:

  • presents quality research

  • documents each fact and relationship fully

  • is well-organized, understandable, and attractively presented

  • has a thorough index

CY Technical and Professional Services can assist putting your family research into a written manuscript that is completely self-contained in a computer file on a DVD or Compact Disk (CD-R/RW).  The file will allow the reading of pages on-screen and allow the printing of pages.  The manuscript will have an index, identify source documents and include illustrations such as pictures, maps, ancestry charts, and relationship charts.  Focus of the manuscript can be descendants of the furthest back known individual having the primary surname or all ancestors of either or both parents.  All information and material we obtain from you to accomplish your project is returned to you after what you asked me to do is accomplished.

Key Benefits

  • Create ancestor relationships in charts and reports that go beyond a compilation of names and dates.

  • Identify reference source documents you have found and collected concerning your ancestors.

  • Include illustrations such as maps, charts, and photographs.

  • Include remembered stories of your ancestors that made them interesting and unique to you.

  • You receive a DVD or CD data disk that can be returned to me when new information is found or becomes available.

Capabilities

The Master Genealogist, Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, and  Adobe Acrobat are the primary software programs utilized to accurately write up all the information you have found about individuals in the particular family units you are researching: father, mother, and children.  Sources of information for relationships and significant life events are identified and properly documented.  Photographs, illustrations, group sheets and relationship charts are incorporated properly within, before, or after the narrative.  I value quality over quantity and will work with you to give you the results you were looking for.  The labor intensity of the project you seek me to complete determines the fee charged.

Capability 1

"The Master Genealogist" (TMG) software is used to organize your research and create your family's data set.  Your data set becomes the tool used by TMG for building charts (ancestor, descendant, and relationship), group sheets and other reports.  Options become available to save these charts, group sheets as document files you can view and print using your own computer, or they can be saved as picture files in a slide show you can watch using a DVD player.  The data set made in this process becomes part of the material given to you.  Updates will require the loan of the data set back to me, unless you have your own copy of TMG software.

Capability 2

TMG and word processing software is used to present your family history research in a well-organized, understandable, and attractively presented publish ready manuscript.  In addition to a thorough index, it can also include illustrations such as maps, charts, and photographs.  It will express information accurately by documenting facts and relationships uncovered by your research.  This project will provide you one printed copy of your manuscript, plus the manuscript as a printer ready file on CD.  Updates or revisions will require the loan of the data set and manuscript file back to me, unless you have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat.

Capability 3

Copyright law does not require public registration to establish copyright claim for your manuscript.   However, if for some significant reason you desire to establish a public record of a copyright claim for your manuscript we can submit the application, required fees, and required copy of your manuscript to the Library of Congress Copyright office identifying you as the owner of the copyright.

Computer and digital technology gives people the ability to write their family history, but many fail to self-publish.  CY Technical and Professional Services provides the skill and knowledge to help you self-publish your family history.
