Analog to Digital Image Scanning Video Editing Digitize History

Transfer your original old family home movies from 8mm, Super8, 16mm film footage or from Betamax, VHS, VHS-C, and 8mm analog video to digital video tape and versatile disc (DVD).  All information and material we obtain from you to accomplish your project is returned to you after what you asked me to do is accomplished.

Key Benefits

  • Digital video tape provides a better image resolution than DVD-video.

  • Digital video tape copies provide the best archiving solution if the original film begins a process of decay or rapid fading.

  • DVD doesn't wear out, demagnetize, or degrade like analog video tape.

  • DVD doesn't need periodic cleaning and lubricating to minimize wear and tear and scratching during use like movie film (most color film processed before 1983 has or is in the process of fading).

  • DVD image life is estimated at 100 years plus when stored in the average office or home environment.

  • DVD, unlike film and analog video tape, lacks any loss of image quality and detail in successive generations of duplication.

  • DVD, unlike film and video tape, allows rapid navigation back and forth between scenes/chapters of the home movie.

  • Devices to view DVD-video are plentiful and available everywhere for a reasonable price, unlike older analog video tape viewing and film projecting technology that are becoming scarce and expensive to buy and repair.

Capabilities

Although the potential quality of DVD-video is high, the burning of a quality home DVD from home movies often results in less than expected picture quality.  There are two reasons for this. The first, DVDs use MPEG-2 compression, which is a lossy compression format that results in some image degradation when encoding video onto a DVD.  The solution is to get a quality MPEG-2 encoder and learn how to use it so only information that is not visible to the human eye is gone from the images recorded on the DVD.  The second, many people fail to realize the original film or video tape footage can lack good picture quality to begin with.

I use professional technical tools, equipment, and software to transfer your old home movies to DVD.  I value quality over quantity and will work with you to give you the results you are looking for.  The labor intensity of the project you seek me to complete determines the fee charged.

Capability 1

A correct gauge (8mm, Super8, 16mm) cinemate series projector and universal condenser lenses projects the movie directly into a Cannon GL2 3CCD digital camera system.   The digital camera inputs the digitized images to a Pinnacle Systems DV500-DVD capture board which puts everything on a hard drive in a Pentium 4 computer.   Adobe Premiere 6.5, Impression DVD and other software is used to edit and replicate your original film movie as a digital video tape or DVD-video.   All film is cleaned and lubricated before the transfer process begins to minimize wear friction and to help prevent rough film running.

Capability 2

A correct format (VHS, Beta, Video8, Hi8...) analog video player outputs the video movie to a Pinnacle Systems DV500-DVD capture board which digitizes the images and puts everything on a hard drive in a Pentium 4 computer.   Adobe Premiere 6.5, Impression DVD and other software is used replicate your original analog video as a DVD-video.

Capability 3

The transfers to DVD can include an enhancing edit process to make a more robust and interesting home movie.
