Equipment, Devices and
Software Although you can transfer your own films to digital by projecting the on high grade smooth white paper or through a condenser lens and optical mirror device to record the images using a digital camcorder, the results although good will probably have many reasons for not being as good as expected or possible had better equipment, software and devices were used. The best possible quality film to video image is obtained from top-end professional equipment used by the entertainment industry that produces all the DVD movies you rent from Blockbuster or other video rental outlet. This type of transfer capability is not affordable and this causes most people to either quickly decide to transfer their films by simply projecting onto a piece of smooth white paper and recording it with a digital camcorder or to seek out and decide on a conversion company to do the transfer for them.
CY Technical and Professional Services uses a specialized custom modified projector that project directly into a built-in broadcast grade 3-chip camera head that feeds the digital images directly into a high-end video editing computer. The software of the video editing computer allows for stop motion capture of frame of films. By passing the need for a mirror and condenser lens device or projecting onto a screen of some sort increases resolution (image quality) limits distortion, eliminates flicker, minimizes mirror and lens surfaces that need to be kept clean of dust, and allows for better control over level of video exposure capture of the image on each frame of the film footage. The captured digitized film footage is then color-corrected and edited on the computer, using Adobe Premiere Pro. From there the digital video is recorded on to digital video tape and burned to a DVD (see Analog to Digital Transfer and Prices & Ordering). Adobe software is the primary digital, video and audio editing solution used. The computers are self assembled Intel Pentium computers using Windows XP Professional operating system. We have various models of 4000DPI optical resolution film and photo scanners and models of professional 3-CCD camcorders (no high-definition yet) and digital cameras.
To play the video, click the triangle play button on the plug-in screen. The video to the left was transferred from silent Black & White 16mm film footage that was filmed in 1964. It is the end results of a final compression conversion and frame size reduction to get a reasonable band width for internet viewing. The page transitions, narration, music, and still photographs were all added by CY Technical & Professional Services. Some of the still photographs are frames extracted from the 16mm motion film footage and others were scanned from still photographs and added. The actual transfer on digital video tape and DVD has a larger frame size and better image quality. Click the triangle play button on the media player plug-in screen to play the video. |
